My Country, A Journey is a multi-strand research project that explores the relationship between migration, creativity and cultural identity in British and Irish society, both historically and in the present. It aims to engage those whose lives have been affected by migration, particularly those whose sense of identity and belonging has been expanded, revised or reconfigured as a result.

While the project’s core focus to date has been on written autobiographical accounts of the Irish migrant experience in Britain, recent research activities have sought to extend the project’s reach by exploring how representations of the Irish experience resonates with the experiences of people from other immigrant backgrounds in Britain.
The project is funded by grants and awards from the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the University of Manchester.
